I think hosting is an area that you really don’t want to be cutting corners on. I use hostgator, which costs me around $10 per month, which I think is an affordable fee.
My sites are always up, and when I’ve needed to use their customer support, it’s always been a pleasant experience. Remember what you’re paying for and don’t try to cut too many corners.
